| WTF IS HAPPENING? Time passes…oh so fast. Just one year ago, Omnicron was on the rise, and two years earlier NY was just beginning to talk about getting the vaccine. Meanwhile, last week, President Biden said COVID was over. Gov Hochul dropped the mask requirements for the subway and just about everyone is back to the level of debauchery that a 99 cent pizza shop sees in the Lower East Side sees on a Saturday night. And yet… medical professionals, and the NY Health commissioner are telling us to hold our horses. OH ANOTHER NEW BOOSTER? Vaccines have been working, but for many, the last booster was last year. Doctors are now recommending everyone over the age of 12 to take the new Bivalent booster if it has been more than 2 months since their last shot. “Updated bivalent boosters can blunt the scale and impact of future waves and will keep our city healthy through the fall and winter, whatever comes our way.” – Dr. Ashwin Vasan, New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH) Commissioner The updated boosters will target new variants and will protect New Yorkers in the coming Fall and Winter months. While last year’s Omnicron variant was one of the most contagious we’d seen, experts believe that more resistant strains are on the way, like the newly discovered Centaurus. AND NOW?
