| As the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe V Wade has started to make its mark across the country, questions have circled on whether it will happen in NY. Here’s a quick FAQ on Abortion in the state of NY. WILL ABORTION REMAIN LEGAL IN NY? In NY, abortion is available up to 24 wks of pregnancy. After 24 wks, you can still get an abortion if your health is at risk or your pregnancy will not survive. “Abortion has been legal under New York State law since 1970 – three years before the Roe v. Wade decision legalized abortion throughout the country. Because the right is codified in New York State law, federal decisions to limit access to abortion will not impact New York State”. – NY State Both Governor Kathy Hochul and Mayor Eric Adams have repeatedly put out statements to protect access to abortion in the state of NY. CAN OUT OF TOWNERS GET AN ABORTION? Yes. NY will welcome out of towners to come here for abortion care. It is also illegal to prevent anyone who is seeking reproductive health care services as well. WHERE CAN YOU GET AN ABORTION? NYC’s public hospitals offer abortion services, including via procedure or medication. To learn more call 844-NYC-4NYC or visit here. WHAT IF YOU CAN’T AFFORD IT?
